	The advent of the new political dispensation in South Africa has created various opportunities for previously disadvantaged communities.  These opportunities now create avenues for the said communities to participate meaningfully in the main stream economy.  A need for a broader participative base within the economy and the desire to develop capacity through meaningful partnerships has been recognised by Alpha Power. Accordingly a 26% shareholding in Alpha Power has been sold to Merafe Kopanang Holdings [Pty] Ltd .In addition to this a 5% shareholding has been sold to a staff member of Alpha Power who is from a previously disadvantaged community. This has resulted in Alpha Power  obtaining a level 2 BEE verification status.
	In 1986 Hyslop Power Technologies was established to sell Uninterruptible Power Supplies and gensets in the Natal Region.   In 2000 the name was changed to Alpha Power Natal CC and became a Pty Ltd. Company in 2006. With its head office in Durban the company has fully operational branches in Cape Town (Milnerton), Gauteng(Edenvale) and in Tanzania (Arusha). In addition to this we are supported throughout South Africa via a network of agents. As well as South Africa we hold maintenance contracts and do servicing and power analysis in Botswana, Swaziland, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Zambia and Tanzania.

POWER ANALYSIS DEPARTMENT Alpha Power is one of the few UPS and genset companies in South Africa that owns two Dranetz Power Analysers. It is often very difficult to ascertain if the cause of equipment malfunction is indeed due to power disturbances. In the case of microprocessor controlled equipment, there is often a debate as to whether the problem is power or software related. It must be noted that there are many different types of power disturbances, the majority of which the eye cannot detect. This is where Power Analysis is required. CABLING DEPARTMENT This department is responsible for the execution of major and minor contracts involving the supply and installation of cables at a competitive price. This division has two experienced installers that can do both power and network cable installations. Additional resources are sourced and recruited through reputable labour brokers to supplement the core personnel of this department. IMPORTATION To ensure competitiveness in the market place Alpha Power Natal imports a range of UPS systems from 600VA to 10KVA. The 10KVA UPS systems are now a standard item in the Game and Dion stores. Each store has two 10KVA UPS’s connected in parallel redundant mode to back up their I.T division. MANUFACTURING At our branch in Edenvale we have a production line manufacturing a range of ferro resonant UPS from 3KVA to 20KVA. These are extremely robust and ideal for harsh environments.

EARTH RESISTIVITY ANALYSIS: A low earth resistance is vital to prevent lightning damage.  Our test equipment will confirm if lightning protection devices once installed will operate correctly and whether additional earthing is required. TECHNICAL BACKUP: Our qualified technicians guarantee fast repair turn around times on all makes of UPS’s and Gensets. Our maintenance contract options are structured to suit different requirements. LOAN AND DEMO UPS SYSTEMS: These range from 600VA to a 5KVA. ELECTRICAL CABLING: A free quotation by our cabling division will ensure any electrical installation work required is done at a competitive price. DATA CABLING: Our cabling division is fully equipped and experienced to install all your network cable requirements including network cable testing with certified print outs. SERVICES: We offer services to all makes of power protection equipment ensuring users derive maximum potential from their equipment. GENSETS: Alpha Power provides a total supply, installation, rigging and commissioning solution, from 2 kVA – 1 mVA.
	Alpha Power endorses and practices the quality management system, which is, based on ISO 9001-2000 code of practices for quality management systems. The quality system of Alpha Power is sub divided into two main function vis-à-vis assurance and control. The establishment and maintenance of the quality system documentation governs the assurance aspect. The effectiveness or control system is monitored by the regular review of the quality system.
	Alpha Power recognises the pivotal role and responsibility to take an active part in training and developmental programmes. This is achieved through providing skills development and training to our staff to inculcate a culture of productivity, which dispels the handout syndrome.
